yikes! a few more days

I can't believe that I leave for Kenya in three days. It's hard to believe that the summer has gone by so quickly, and that in four days I'll step foot in sub-saharan Africa, something that I've been looking forward to for a long time. There are going to be so many things to do and learn. As for now I'm trying to get everything done that I need to: saying good bye to friends and family, watching the last few episodes of Passions before it moves to DirectTV, oh, and packing (the problem is just to remember everything that I need to).

One exciting development, the malaria pills I'm taking have been giving me some pretty interesting and involved dreams. I'm looking forward to what kind of stories these dreams might bring.

To give you a quick synopsis of my program, I'm going with 17 other students from my school. We're living in apartments in Westlands, an area of Nairobi. I'll be taking classes three days a week, two classes at United States International University (African Authors and Environmental Policy), and two classes through our program, The politics of culture in Kenya, taught by our in-country program director , KJ, and Swahili taught by a man named Fredm who is apparently one of the best teachers ever. The other two days of the week I'll be doing an internship through a local NGO. I don't know where I'll be working yet but as soon as I do I'll let you all know.

Kwa herini ya kuonana (good bye until we see each other again)
